Bryden Nicholas (born 10 March 1989 in Tauranga) is a New Zealand- Cook Islander slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2005. Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a Spraydeck, decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. Mangahao River
The Mangahao River is located in the North Island of New Zealand. The headwaters are in the Tararua Ranges. The river flows northeast feeds into the Manawatū River south of Woodville. There are two dams on the river which tunnel water, via a third reservoir on the Tokomaru River, to the Mangahao Power Station located on the Mangaore Stream near Shannon. The 2006 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of eight races in 4 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 19th edition. The series consisted of 4 continental championships (European, Pan American, Oceania and Asian), 3 world cup races and the world championships. Calendar Final standings The winner of each world cup race was awarded 30 points. Semifinalists were guaranteed at least 5 points and paddlers eliminated in heats received 2 points each. The continental championships had a lesser status with the winner earning 20 points, semifinalists at least 2 points and all others were awarded 1 point for participation. Because the continental championships were not open to all countries, every athlete could only compete in one of them. Ella Nicholas
Ella Nicholas (born 15 December 1990 in Tauranga, New Zealand) is a Cook Islands slalom canoeist who has competed since 2007. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London she took part in the K1 event, finishing 18th in the heats, failing to qualify for the semifinals. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she finished 18th in the heats of the K1 event and did not qualify for the semifinals. She was the flag bearer for the Cook Islands during the Parade of Nations. Her brother Bryden also represented Cook Islands at the 2016 Summer Olympics in canoe slalom.
